Wooden Window Box and Other Wood Box Planters For The Garden
Growing plants, small trees, and shrubs in planters adds another interest for the gardener, and another dimension to a garden's design. One of the most attractive, and natural types of planter is a wooden box planter.
There are a number of types of wood that are suitable for outdoor garden use, including red cedar wood and teak. Wooden planters look good in any garden, and some are attractive enough and suitable for planting your indoor displays.
Another good thing about planters is that they can look good in isolation, or in groups. For example, the teak tree planter pictured top (all pictures courtesy of Simply Planters) stands in grand solitude in a spacious garden with no clutter. Yet, that same box planter could just as easily stand on a crowded patio amongst lots of other planters of different types and materials. Plus, of course, different species of plants, some erect, some trailing, some with bright flowers, some just for foliage effect.
One way of adding height to a patio display of planters, other than having trees, is to have climbing plants. The use of a trellis box planter is idea for this , and a number of them could be used to provide privacy or demarcation of a patio's edge.
When thinking of box planters, it is difficult to leave out the good old fashioned window box. The cedar wood window box in the last picture is a fine example, and hardly looks old fashioned at all. Wood certainly makes a fine natural material for planters of all types, not just box planters.
