Ceramic Planters For Use in the Garden and on the Patio, Terrace or Deck

One of the most attractive materials for pots and planters is ceramic. In fact, with the artistic designs of ancient ceramics still influencial in home and garden decor, some would regard ceramic planters as the most stylish, and sometimes beautiful, of all types of containers.
The best and most distinguished ceramic planters do not even need plants and flowers in to make them an eye catching addition to the home or garden decor. The designs and artwork can be so distinctive, you may even want to avoid planting trailing plants which may cover even a small part of a design.
Many of the more robust ceramic pots and larger containers are suitable for outdoor use, but you should also check, when buying ceramics, whether they are suitable for use in the garden. Some of the more delicate pots are really intended for indoor use only. However, you will still be left with a large range to choose from for outside displays.
Ceramic planters are especially suited to patios and other paved areas. Even a small yard with no exposed soil can be turned into a classically inspired haven with a few ceramic urns and other shaped planters, and well chosen flowers, shrubs and foliage.

One of the big advantages that ceramics have over wood in planter design is the variety of shapes you are likely to find in the stores. The classic urn shapes, for example, go back thousands of years, as do other popular shapes for pottery and ceramics.
The planters pictured here are all classic in their looks, yet modern designs that are still being created today. They all make an excellent foil for plants, flowers and shrubs. These are of modest size, but you can always find much larger, and smaller, variations of similar designs.
